If you love spending time outdoors and going on different types of adventures, you likely have a full range of gear that has accumulated over the years.

Some adventurers fall in love with one activity, such as kayaking. Others may not be able to get enough of the outdoors. If you fall into the latter group, you may have gear for everything from fishing and hiking to hunting, skiing, snowboarding and more stored on your property. With so much gear stored in a small space, your home, porch, or storage shed is undoubtedly crammed full.

Creating a custom garage design can give all of these items a place of their own.

Build a Tall Garage for Added Storage Space

When you have a ton of outdoor gear, the floor and wall space available for use in your garage could be limited.  Try looking upward for additional space.

A tall garage design may let you take advantage of overhead storage space with suspension storage features. These will be installed into the brackets in your ceiling for support, and they may have convenient levers or pulleys to raise or lower the storage feature as needed.

They are great for storing larger, bulky items, such as canoes, kayaks, paddles and even larger camping gear like a family-sized tent or sun canopy.

You may also create a second-story loft for added storage space.

Install Custom Storage Features

When you are designing a new garage space, you can install custom storage features that are specifically designed for your items.

For example, a small alcove can be created to house ATVs. You may even have a separate garage door for easily getting your ATVs in and out of the garage.

In addition, a permanent pegboard can be installed to store and display long, thin items. With a pegboard, items like skis and ski poles, fishing poles and even hiking sticks can be mounted to the walls.

Add Built-In Shelves for Your Storage Bins

Whether you have one outdoor passion or are a jack of all trades, you probably have a ton of outdoor equipment and gear that needs a home.

A simple but smart idea is to invest in very large, durable storage bins.

One of these large bins, for example, can hold most or all of your camping gear, and another may hold your climbing gear or your beach gear.

While some will stack these bins on top of each other, the last thing you may want is to deal with the hassle of moving around large, heavy bins to access your items.

Your custom garage design may feature built-in shelves that give each of these bins a space of their own. This makes it easier for you to access the bins as needed.

If you have many storage bins, an elongated garage design may be needed to give you space for all of your built-in shelves.

Keeping all of your gear organized is no easy task. However, with the right storage solutions and garage design, you will always be able to find exactly what you are looking for.
