When it comes to choosing flooring for your garage, there is a variety of different options.

Breaking down the pros and cons of the four most popular garage floor options:

Stains and Clear Coats:

  • The major advantage of stains and clear coats is that they tend to be the least expensive option when it comes to choosing flooring for your garage. These coats can be easily and inexpensively placed over the original concrete floor, and there is a variety of options to choose from.

Rubber-Flooring Tiles:

  • Rubber-flooring tiles are easy to install, and very durable. Many rubber-flooring tiles are water resistant; impervious to heavy impact loads; and resistant to staining, mildew, and mold. They are also relatively easy to maintain and come in a variety of colors and designs.
  • However, rubber-flooring tiles can be a more expensive option and, therefore, may not be an ideal choice if you are on a tight budget. On the upper end of the price range, rubber flooring can run anywhere from $12 to $15 per square foot. It should also be noted that rubber-flooring tiles can become slippery when wet.

Hybrid Polymer Flooring:

  • Hybrid polymer flooring, such as liquid granite, tends to be the most popular option when it comes to garage flooring. These floors are quite resistant to a variety of elements that could cause damage and wear and tear, including salt, chemicals, oil, mildew, and fungus. They are durable and long-lasting.

Grind, Patch, and Polish Concrete:

  • Grind, patch, and polish concrete floors are attractive and therefore are an excellent option for those concerned with aesthetics.
  • There are multiple finishes to choose from, and they can be customized in different colors, patterns, and textures. They are low maintenance and very durable.
  • The downside? They tend to be labor-intensive and, therefore, the most expensive.
